    • Coffin's history, pg. 532:

      Joel French was a merchant in Boscawen 1801 to 1811, and town clerk 1807 to 1809. He, in connection with William G. Emerson and Col. Joseph and N. Peabody Atkinson, set out the elm trees now standing on the west side of the street, between his house (now owned by Mrs. Daniel Y. Bickford) and the Ambrose hotel.

      He m. Susannah, dau. of Col. Henry and Martha (Clough) Gerrish, of Boscawen, 29 March 1804. She d. at Nashua 2 January 1867.
