- History of Boscawen and Webster, From 1733 to 1878, Charles Carleton Coffin, Concord, N.H., 1878, pg. 302
Sinkler Bean, the first settler of the name of all those in the Merrimack valley, so far as is known, came with the first party in 1734. He remained in Contoocook till the settlement of Salisbury, when he became a resident of that town, where many of his descendants now reside. His name appears frequently upon the records, appointed on committees in positions of trust and honor. He was a leading and influential citizen in Salisbury.
- Nathaniel Bean Family, pgs. 30-1
Sinkler Bean, second son of John Bean and wife Sarah, moved from Brentwood to Boscawen (Contoocook) in 1734 and to Salisbury in 1766. He built a log house on the west side of the Blackwater river, near the Fitz meadow. With the exception of the Maloon family, he was the first settler west of Blackwater.
It is said of him that he was a man of decided moral principles, and his influence was always on the side of religion and good citizenship. He was a Quaker and often held service. He was the first town clerk, after the incorporation of the town and held office four years.
He gave the land for the Bean cemetery on what was called Bean Hill, and was on the committee to locate the meeting house in Boscawen in 1767. He was an elder in the church. He was a weaver by trade.
One authority says Sinkler and Shuah Fifield Bean had thirteen children. The "History of Salisbury" states that Nathaniel born Nov. 21, 1761 was the 12th child of Sinkler and Shuah Fifield Bean. Sinkler bean was born in Brentwood.
Above history also states that Sinkler Bean did not sign the "test" but further states that it does not appear that he was unfriendly to the cause for he was often at this time trusted with Town business and aided in supplying the demands of the army. It is reported that he was a Quaker. Page 57 his name appears in list of Proprietary officers, P. 69 as signer of Articles of Association, P. 150 Sinkler Bean signed Covenant, P. 254 Elder Sinkler Bean's name is on the Alarm list. It is on this service that lineage Paper is accepted by D.A.R. Pearl May Lum Linsley has supplemental paper on Sinkler Bean line.
